Being the natural vegetation of the Central Asian mountain range, walnut traveled from there to Xinjiang (East Turkistan), a part of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the south of Kyrgyzstan, the Nepal Mountains, Tibet, northern India, Afghanistan through Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Iraq, a part of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and eastern Turkey; it has spread to the entire territory of Turkey in time. History of walnut in Turkey dates to thousands of years. As Turkey’s geography is within the natural spreading area of walnut, Anatolia is regarded as one of the gene centers of walnut in scientific sources. Turkey ranks 4th in the world walnut production. Walnut is grown in all agricultural regions of our country thanks to the suitable climatic conditions. Therefore, Anatolia can be described as a walnut garden. Walnut is the common name of tree species of the Juglans genus, a member of the walnut family (Juglandaceae), whose single pennate leaves are lined up opposite to each other and have aromatic scent. They shed their leaves in winter. The extract of young twigs is partitioned. The buds are covered with a small number of scales. The edges of the leaves are fine-toothed in some species while straight in others. The inner part of the large seeded juicy fruit which ripens in autumn is divided into 2 sections. The seeds have 2 oily and delicious lobes.
